So, as the past few days unfolded i've learned that This generation is in need of prayer, focus and just knowing God loves us all. This past saturday, GMC had the privelage of going to PennDel Winter Retreat at the Philip Bongiornio Conference Center in Carlisle, PA.
It was a fantastic experience which I was never able to go to as a teen. The speaker spoke on "Purity" and then on "Who Am I" in Christ. What I learned is that purity isn't just about the 3 letter word teens giggle about all the time. It's much more than that. Purity is also living as best of a God filled life as you can. It's can be defined as the way we talk, the way we dress, the way we live, the way we act, etc. Who am I in Christ? Our true identity is found in Christ, that is where our real name is. Our identity in Christ is our name that God has given us. It's not the names that people call other people, especially in a teen setting. Kids are called many names and so they live up to those negative names sometimes when they should be living up to the true identity name God gave them!
The students were able to watch the movie, "To Save A Life" about these two boys who were best friends until the one year, freshman year of high school, the one friend became a sports star, popular person, who had the girlfriend and everything. But the truth is...he didn't have everything because he didn't have God. He realizes this after his childhood friend walked into school one day with a gun and committed suicide. After his friends funeral, he starts talking to this youth pastor and starts going to church. He went through some events after his friend passes away and learns a few things about his perfect life that isn't so perfect. He learns something about his family, his girlfriend, his so called friends, rethinking about the college he wants to go to as soon as he graduates. God came into his life and changed him. He became friends with many different students, all students at school making them feel loved and welcome and in the process becomes best friends with a mutual friend to his deceased best friend. When his life slowly falls apart, he becomes not to friendly towards his new best friend. This friend goes into depression a bit, gets framed for something at school...so what is this life changer who knows God going to do about this? Will he save a life? This is a movie that teens should watch. It's a movie that teens should watch because things like these events happen and they don't know what to do or they are afraid to show their true identity. They're afraid to live for God. Why? We should be comforting those and leading those lost souls to Christ.
These youth are conquerors, strong, chosen, treasured, and alive from Christ. This is my and their LIFE FORMATION. We still have 2 weekends left of Winter Retreat and I can't wait to see God move through the speakers, worship band, drama team, etc. Let this be a Life Formation for all! Also remember that it is important that we and others have a part to do in our Dreams!!
